Delbert Squares

Delbert Squares
Don't these look delicious? My good friend Mandi (thanks Mandi for the recipe) has this amazing recipe that she would bring to very special occasions like church meetings or ladies' night. She finally shared this incredible recipe with some of her devoted friends *me* and I have made them countless times since.
Recipe
1 1/2 cups oatmeal (oats)
1 1/2 cups brown sugar
1 1/2 cups flour
2 sticks butter (softened)
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 jar of caramel ice cream topping (the best is Mrs. Richardson's butterscotch caramel)
3/4 - full bag of milk chocolate chips

Mix oatmeal, brown sugar, flour, butter, salt, baking soda and vanilla together. Use 3/4 of this mixture as the crust. Press into a 9x13 greased pan. Bake at 355 degrees for 6 to 9 minutes. Take out of oven and pour caramel evenly over the oat mixture. Spread chocolate chips over the caramel evenly. Top with remaining 1/4 oat mixture. Put back in oven for ten more minutes and WOOHOO! You have made yourself Delbert Squares! Enjoy!
